Fernandes FRT bridge - Trem Block Replacement
One of the upgrades/replacements that I made to the Fernandes FR-95 that I own was to the floating bridge system. I actually like the Fernandes floating bridge system with their horizontal fine tuners, but back in the 90s I think "import guitars" in general were not known for using the best hardware. In this case the tremolo block in the bridge was pretty tiny and made of a grey, unknown metal - definitely not steel but I don't know if you could class it as "pot metal". Fig

Question Time: '96 Fender Telecaster 52 Reissue
Next up I'm going to talk about the one and only telecaster I have in my arsenal at the moment. Definitely a situation I am looking to rectify :) What's the story of this guitar? When did you get it? Well, I have distinct memories of what inspired this purchase: I was at a "blues night" at the local live music venue, well local at the time anyway: The Gov. It was one of those ones where anyone can go up and jam with the band. I remember one guy coming up with a telecaster in

Question Time: Parker Fly
I thought it might be fun to write a series of posts about things I like and dislike about particular guitars that I own. It would be fun for me (once I get over the cringiness) to read this in the future and find out how much of this actually applies and if things have changed. The way I've decided to do it is to answer a standard set of questions for each guitar and I'll link the relevant blog post to that guitar's page. So, first up...the Parker Fly . Let's get started: Wh

More Fernandes Sustainer info
It's been a while now since I purchased my Fernandes FR-95S from Japan. So I thought I would update this blog with the latest on this guitar. I have done quite a lot of work to it but this blog post will speak specifically to some if the onboard electronics. I am by no means an electronics expert - I struggle through and most of the time I'll get a result but I'm a beginner at best. That's why I have included lots of photos, hopefully these are helpful for anyone reading the

My experience with Fernandes Sustainer guitars
I haven't blogged in a while - mostly because there's nothing that I really needed to post on here. I use this mostly as my own reference and I doubt very much that anyone is actually reading these - I just haven't done or played anything lately that needed to be documented in a blog pots. All that changed fairly recently when I got to play with the Sustainer system from Fernandes . Because of reasons that I will go into later, I had to do a lot of research and I found that t

Powering the HX Stomp
Powering the HX Stomp Since purchasing the HX Stomp I have learned a few things along the way that I thought I would document. If this post can help someone else, great - but it is likelier to serve as a reminder to myself a year down the line when I try to figure out why I made certain decisions. Background: I have 2 basic usage scenarios for the Line 6 HX Stomp which in turn determines where it will be placed. Firstly, connected directly to my DAW, sitting on the same tab

Stratocaster Setups
I setup most of my own guitars about once every 1-1.5 years, or on an as needed basis. This is more of a diary post to record what my and measurements are at this current point in time. This post will deal with Strat style guitars, but some of these measurements apply across all my guitars. I am no luthier, there may be misinformation in this post - as I said this is more of a post for my own reference, as I have changed these steps countless times over the years whenever I

Reviews: Gotoh SD-90 tuners
One of the most valuable guitars in my collection, believe it or not, is the '95 Korean Epiphone. It doesn't sound great nor does it command a high price but that was my first electric guitar; and definitely the guitar I've learned most on - both in music and guitar setup/maintenance. I've personally changed almost everything on this guitar: pickups, bridge/tailpiece, nut, electronics, knobs, switches, jacks. I've slightly re-positioned the bridge PU to line up with the stri
