Part of Tokai's "Vintage Series" which were all made in Japan. I managed to pick this one up at about half the price of a new one. It is in great condition save for some buckle rash, and it is definitely a purchase that I do not regret. I've always wanted to try P90 pickups and I'm fortunate to have a guitar which allows me to have first hand experience.
The guitar came extremely well set up and has stayed that way for more than a year at the time of writing. The bone nut was cut extremely well - so much so that I am starting to doubt if it came from the factory that way or was changed out by the previous owner. It is definitely bone but the spec sheet reveals that these guitars came with bone nuts as stock anyway. Frets are also cut to a high standard and luckily the previous owner didn't seem to put much wear on them.
I think the electronics on these Japanese Tokais are probably well made (update: they are Gotoh pots, A500k) however I will be replacing them at some point because they are linear pots and I prefer log pots. The pickups sound great to me but at some point I would love to try some Lollars to see what the fuss is about.
These models are finished in polyurethane and this particular example is supposed to be in See Through Yellow but there is a green tinge to it. I don't mind it so much, but I guess I would prefer a more classic TV Yellow look.
